Not so much

American doctors told how many steps per day are good for health. It was shown by a study lasting 13 years.

Scientists have determined the number of steps per day that reduce the risk of death from all causes.

Scientists observed 2,110 people aged 38 to 50 years. In 2005-2006, participants put an accelerometer on their hips every day for a week. It helped to measure the level of physical activity. Because of this, the researchers calculated the average number of steps per day. As a result, people were divided into three groups: with a low level of physical activity (less than 7000 steps per day), with an average level (7000-9999 steps per day), and with a high level (more than 10,000 steps per day). Then people were watched for many years.

As it turned out, the death risk from all causes in participants with high and medium levels of physical activity was significantly lower than in participants with low levels of physical activity. So, it is enough to take 7000 or more steps per day to be healthy.
