In the 1920s, a group of scientists led by Manuel Pevsner developed a special system of 15 diets for patients with various diseases: from stomach ulcers to kidney diseases. For each diet, experts have thought over a special diet — doctors still use this scheme.

Table No. 1 Stomach and duodenal ulcer

Recommend:

Cooked or steamed dishes, as well as cream soups, milk, dairy products, white bread crackers, and jelly.

Prohibit:

Patients have to give up many vegetables: onions, garlic, radishes, red and white cabbage, spinach, radish, and sorrel. Also, rich pastries, meat, fish, and mushroom broths are excluded from the diet.

Table No. 2 For atrophic gastritis and colitis

Recommend:

Soups on low-fat meat and fish broths with vermicelli, boiled chicken without skin. Food processing methods can be any — with one exception: dishes are served in a crushed form at a certain temperature from 15 to 60 degrees.

Prohibit:

Meat, fatty fish, lard, smoked meats, canned food, pickles and marinades, millet, pearl barley, corn, and barley porridge. Chocolate, custard products, dates, and figs are excluded from sweets. Carbonated drinks, berries with seeds and rough skins, legumes, radishes, bell peppers, onions, garlic, and mushrooms are also banned.

Table No. 3 For chronic intestinal inflammation with constipation

Recommend:

Fruits and vegetables in unlimited quantities, prunes, dried bread, kefir, and compotes. In this case, the products must be crushed.

Prohibit:

Pastry and puff pastry, canned meat, smoked meats, semolina, and rice porridge, garlic, onion, fibrous meat, radish, radish, chocolate, blueberry sweets, quince, dogwood, strong tea, and coffee.

Table No. 4 For intestinal diseases accompanied by diarrhea

Recommend:

Light soups with semolina or rice groats, buckwheat or rice porridge, and lean meat – all are cooked or steamed. Apple sauce without skin, jelly, and kissel.

Prohibit:

Bakery products, smoked meats, canned food, dairy products, raw fruits and berries, barley and millet porridge, legumes, coffee, and carbonated drinks.

Table No. 5 For the biliary tract and liver diseases

Recommend:

Stewed, boiled, and baked foods. There are no special restrictions except for fatty dishes. Cooked food should not be too cold and too salty.

Prohibit:

Smoked meats, pickles, marinades, canned food, pork, lard, olives, legumes, baked goods, chocolate, black coffee, and cocoa.

Table No. 6 For urolithiasis and gout

Recommend:

Boiled meat and fish 2-3 times a week, served at a temperature of 15 to 60 degrees. Vegetarian soups, any cereals and porridges, milk and fermented milk products, raw and steamed vegetables, and fresh fruits.

Prohibit:

Pickles, smoked meats, sausages, bacon, mushrooms, sweet and puff baked goods, strong tea, and coffee. Fruits and berries such as figs, raspberries, and cranberries.

Table No. 7 For chronic and acute nephritis and renal insufficiency

Recommend:

Almost any steamed and watering dishes, but not too salty or hot.

Prohibit:

Pickles, marinades, mushrooms, canned food, fats, pastries with creams, cocoa, chocolate, strong tea, and coffee.

Table No. 8 For obesity

Recommend:

Consume 1600-1700 calories a day. The menu includes vegetables, fruits, low-fat cottage cheese, dairy products no fatter than 10 percent, olive oil, nuts, meat, and fish.

Prohibit:

Sweets, pastries, sausages, sauces, and marinades, as well as fatty meats and fish, pasta, and legumes.

Table No. 9 For diabetes mellitus

Recommend:

Eat small portions every three hours. At the same time, carbohydrates, proteins, and salt should be limited.

Prohibit:

Sugar, sweet fruits, juices, pastries, fatty meat and fish, canned food, smoked meats, raisins, and grapes.

Table No. 10 For the cardiovascular system diseases

Recommend:

Vegetarian soups with cereals, vegetables, lean meat, fish, fresh fruits and berries, and dairy products except for sour cream, cream, and cheese.

Prohibit:

Fatty meat and fish, smoked meats, sausages, pastry and puff pastry, fresh bread, canned food, caviar, duck, goose, onion, garlic, pancakes, pancakes, coffee, and chocolate.

Table No. 11 For tuberculosis, pneumonia, anemia, and emaciated condition after injuries and operations

Recommend:

Boiled, stewed, or steamed protein foods, fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, juices, eggs, cottage cheese, honey, and jam.

Sauces, seasonings, hot peppers, fatty meats, and fish, confectionery products containing a large amount of protein, and buttercream.

Table No. 12 For diseases of the nervous system

Recommend:

Foods rich in phosphoric salts are legumes, liver, lean meat and fish, dairy products, vegetables, fruits, and berries. Also, patients are allowed to eat yesterday’s or dried bread. Sweet such as honey, marshmallows, and sweets, but not chocolate.

Prohibit:

Fatty meat and fish, spices, broths, chocolate, cocoa, strong tea, and coffee.

Table No. 13 For acute infectious diseases

Recommend:

Porridges with some milk or broth, lean meat, and fish, fermented milk products, dried bread, sweet fruits sugar, jam, honey, and marmalade.

Prohibit:

Fatty broths, pasta, legumes, heavy cream, and sour cream, garlic, cucumbers, cakes and muffins, cabbage, garden radish, radish, pearl barley, millet, and mushrooms.

Table No. 14 For kidney diseases and phosphorus-calcium metabolism disorders

Recommend:

Everything that helps to maintain an acidic environment: meat, fish, cereals, pasta, and bread. Dishes should be served at a moderate temperature.

Prohibit:

Pickles, muffins, juices, smoked meats, canned food, and vegetables.

Table No. 15 For those recovering from illness or surgery

Recommend:

All dishes should be rich in vitamins and minerals.

Prohibit:

Fatty meat and fish, sausages, cheeses, cottage cheese, and sour cream with a high percentage of fat content.

Modern products are very poor in trace elements. The FDA-recommended daily magnesium allowance for women is 320 mg and for men 420 mg. Ionic magnesium chloride (bischofite) will help to fill this norm.
